The Sydney branch of The Fashion Group International (FGI) has presented AWI with a 2009 'Award for Excellence' for its work in developing wool apparel innovations. AWI won the award in the 'Innovation Excellence' category for its broad range of product innovations, while the MerinoFreshTM 'shower suit' was especially noted by the judges. Based on the world-first rinse and clean 'shower suit' technology, MerinoFreshTM technology allows woven products made from Merino wool to be refreshed or cleaned after wearing, simply using a domestic shower. Founded in 1930, FGI is a global non-profit organisation spanning 42 countries which promotes and assists fashion and design businesses. The Awards for Excellence are presented biannually by the Sydney branch of FGI to Australian businesses who are leaders in their market segment. AWI wins 'Award for Excellence' for design innovation February 2010 BEYOND THE BALE SELLING MORE WOOL 13 Australian Merino wool, represented by the Woolmark brand, took a leading role at Milano Unica, the prestigious woven textile fair in Italy. A highlight of the fair was the 'On Stage' catwalk event, organised by Milano Unica in a marketing partnership with the Woolmark brand. Ten young international talents, handpicked by the doyen of Italian fashion and Vogue Italia's editor-in-chief, Franca Sozzani, presented the very best of their collections on the Milan catwalk. And it was Australian Merino wool that was the undisputed star, applauded by the top names in the international press and fashion business. Mr Pier Luigi Loro Piana, president of Milano Unica, thanked AWI for its contribution to the success of this major event. "The partnership with Woolmark is an expression of the strong relationship between the Australian wool industry and the European textile community. It will for sure encourage research and development of new Merino wool products," Mr Loro Piana said.
