AWI Annual General Meeting BeyoNd the Bale New directors elected at aGM The 2008 AWI Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held at Belmont Park Racecourse in Burswood, Perth. With more than 200 people in attendance, the voting for the Board of Directors was preceded by a series of forums showcasing AWI’s research and development, product development, marketing plan and new strategy. Senior AWI staff, including Lu Hogan (general manger wool production), David Yardley (general manager marketing), Geoff Lindon (head sheep technologies and special projects), Jimmy Jackson (general manager global product development and commercialisation) and Rob Langtry (senior strategic adviser), all gave comprehensive presentations. They demonstrated how the changes in their areas would help achieve the company’s strategic plan: creating an additional demand of 20 million kilograms for Australian Merino wool, reducing the costs of production by $0.40 a kilogram, and providing growers with mulesing alternatives. The vast open spaces at Belmont Park allowed AWI to showcase some of the cutting-edge fibre technologies they have helped developed. MERINOfresh™, for example, enables woven products made from Merino wool to be simply cleaned and refreshed using a domestic shower. The technology behind the highly successful MERINOfresh™ was on display at the forum, along with its cousins MERINOcool™, the trans-seasonal fabric ideal for everyday wear all year round; and MERINOtouch™, the luxurious, natural, next-to-skin fabric suited to intimate apparel. Four new directors were elected to the Board, which then met to elect a new Chairman and Deputy Chairman. The AWI Board for 2008-09 is as follows: l Mr Walter B. Merriman – Chairman and non-executive director; l Mr Roger Fletcher – Deputy Chairman and non-executive director; l Dr Meredith Sheil – non-executive director; l Dr Kevin J. Bell – non-executive director; l Mr George Falkiner – non-executive director; l Mr Laurence Modiano – non-executive director; l Mr Charles Olsson – non-executive director; l Mr Brian P. van Rooyen – non-executive director; and l Mr David Webster – non-executive director.
